Enough of Travelling

It has been my dream to go on a simple, long, casual trip around an Asian country to rekindle memories of my hitch-hiking in Wales, England and around Ireland, and back-packing through the major cities of Europe, during summer holidays, when I was a student in the UK, ages ago.

It would be fun to make a trip to Vietnam, travelling from Ho Chi Minh City through the various cities to Hanoi and then across the border to South China. It would be a very leisurely journey, staying at small inns or budget hotels along the way, with no constraints of time  -  staying longer at places which I find to be simple and idyllic.

Looking back on my life, I think I have done quite a lot of travelling during my student days in the UK; my short teaching career in my home country  -  travelling all over during long school holidays for fishing, snorkelling and island-hopping; my time with the publisher's  -  travelling regularly all over Indonesia, East Malaysia and to Singapore and Hong Kong. I had been able to go on vacations, too, when I was gainfully employed, to the UK, Europe, USA and Canada on different occasions.

I think I’ve done enough of travelling. I prefer to enjoy reading and writing at my little haven  -  a pied-ā-terre  -  where I have got books galore, on the suburb of my home city.

Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path leading wherever I choose.
