“Have you been painting the house
all by yourself, Daddy?” my younger daughter, Olivia, in Melbourne, asked me on
Skype.
“Yes, I have,” I replied. “There’s just the kitchen, the
back and the side of the house to be done. I’m taking my time in doing it.”
I have not told her that once I
start doing something I will not stop until everything has been done. The
kitchen and the other parts of the house have not been done because I have run
out of paint. I will continue to paint in earnest after I have bought a fresh
supply of paint.
My wife, who is the MD of a
family-foundry, has offered to have her workers do the painting but I have told
her that I would prefer to do it alone. She can easily get her foundry-workers
to do all the odd-jobs at home but I have always insisted on doing everything
myself as I am a real DIY fiend.
